Justin Bieber Nabs Third Hot Tours No. 1

November 7, 2012

Pop star Justin Bieber makes his third appearance at No. 1 on the weekly Hot Tours recap since launching the North American leg of the Believe Tour in late-September. This week's chart-topping performance is based on $11.8 million in reported box office revenue from 11 sold out concerts at 10 U.S. arenas. Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont hosted the tour for concerts on two consecutive nights, October 23 & 24, with a total attendance count of 27,132 for both shows. With ticket prices ranging from $39.50 to a top price of $89.50, gross sales topped $2.1 million, the third-highest gross for a two-show arena stint by a touring artist in the Windy City this year. Only Madonna and Coldplay grossed more from double-show runs in the Chicago market, both with third quarter appearances at the United Center.

Since the Believe Tour began on September 29 in Phoenix, the overall gross is near the $26 million mark from 24 performances. Over 341,000 tickets have been sold at shows occurring through the November 4 performance at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The tour's North American leg will run through the remainder of November and resume in January. A European trek will launch the following month.

Phish scores a second place Hot Tours ranking with ticket sales totals reported from the final three dates on the jam band's 2012 summer tour that wrapped in the Denver market on September 2. The final concert engagement was a three-show run at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the 18,000-seat home venue of the Colorado Rapids, Denver's professional soccer team. With concerts on August 31, September 1 & 2, the number of sold tickets topped 60,000 for all three shows, grossing $3.3 million.

Prior to the Denver concerts, Phish performed an arena show at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis on August 28 and an outdoor event the following day at Oklahoma City Zoo Amphitheatre. The final count of sold tickets from the summer tour totals 389,489 from 29 performances with an overall gross of $21.3 million.
